Maui Consumer Surfs Duke’s Oceanfest 2018

Our very own Victor Pullman of Maui, joined hundreds of participants last week in the 2018 Duke’s Oceanfest in Waikiki. Maui IL Specialist, Lani Cabanilla traveled with Victor to attend this special event and cheer him on. The festivities were kicked off on Sunday with the Opening Ceremonies where they were joined by our Executive Director, Roxanne Bolden.

On Monday, Victor placed 1st in his division and advanced to the next heat. With Hurricane Lane approaching, Victor caught several good waves on day two but unfortunately did not advance to the next heat. Although disappointed with the results, Victor expressed his gratitude for all his supporters and looks forward to competing again.

Duke’s OceanFest is held each summer in Waikiki in honor of Hawaiian legend Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, who is fondly remembered as the greatest waterman who ever lived. Held at venue sites throughout Waikiki , OceanFest features a variety of ocean sports that were close to Duke’s heart, including Surfing, Paddleboard Racing, Swimming, Volleyball, and more.  The Hawaii Adaptive Surfing Championships are just one of the many events held as one of the Oceanfest divisions.
