A Basketball for Christmas

To most young adults, a basketball wouldn’t seem like a very big gift.  But for one Big Island consumer, it was the best Christmas present ever.  Big Island IL Specialist, Emily Bartlett-Henry has worked with Lopeti for 6 years and he currently attends AILH’s young adult support group. He comes from a large family in which he is the oldest child. Lopeti’s passion is basketball. He goes to the park everyday to shoot hoops and after much practice, he can now make up to 7 baskets in a row, including some amazing 3 pointers! He also lost 30 pounds just from this daily routine. He had one basketball that he used so much that it was bald and flat. Thanks to a wonderful partnership with the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, on December 15 we were blessed to be able to present a brand new ball to Lopeti at our holiday party. He beamed from ear to ear and was thrilled beyond words. These are the moments that remind us each day of why we do what we do.  We are grateful for the opportunity to share the Christmas spirit and serve our community all year round.
