Luana was born and raised on Molokai. Growing up on a small island, Luana has learned about the challenges of people with disabilities. Back in 2015, Luana spoke on the Maui Economic Opportunity Panel advocating for the people with disabilities on Molokai. She was able to get bus transportation services to waive fees for people with disabilities to receive transportation on a daily basis. While serving and making a difference on her island home, she has grasped the passion for helping people with disabilities on her island.
While helping the people of Molokai, Luana experienced something difficult. In January 2017, her 1-month-old son was diagnosed with liver failure and underwent liver transplant surgery in May 2017. While Luana was going through this, her understanding of people with disabilities grew stronger. When she returned back home in November 2017, she sought more education about the services that were available for people with disabilities on Molokai.
Luana has grown to understand the importance of what the island of Molokai needs and the services she can provide through Aloha Independent Living Hawaii. She is ready to prosper as the island of Molokai’s newest IL specialist.
