Held on May 1 each year, May Day is a statewide celebration of the aloha spirit and the giving of the flower lei. … It is unknown when the tradition of giving lei began; it was believed to be a custom with the original Hawaiians, who presented lei of nuts, seeds, shells, leaves, and flowers as offering to the gods.
While this year we are going through uncertain times, we still want to celebrate May Day here at AILH by sharing this blog post. Take some time in your day to pause and think about the people in your life that really embody the Aloha spirit, and thank them for being who they are. Today may not be like it was last year, and we may not be able to visit our friends and loved ones right now, but they are still in our hearts and we can think of them in these small moments.
