Maui VI & Blindness Education & Peer Support Group Kicks Off New Year
February 3, 2018
The Vision Impairment and Blindness Education and Peer Support Group met on Wednesday, January 31 in Kahului, Maui. It was the first meeting of the new year and some great things happened. We welcomed guest speaker, Theone Albano-Suzuki, Rehabilitation Teacher, from Ho’opono State Services for the Blind. She shared information about the Low Vision Clinic and the Older Individuals Who Are Blind Program. Everyone enjoyed learning more about talking watches, talking clocks, and other products that Theone brought to demonstrate. At the end of the meeting the group presented Maui IL Specialist, Kathleen Kenney with a Thank You card in recognition of one year as facilitator of the group.
The January meeting also marked the start of the collaboration with MEO/Paratransit so that the Kihei members have a dedicated bus to transport them to and from the meetings each month. This group will continue meeting on the last Wednesday of every month in 2018 in Kahului, Maui. Please contact Kathleen for more information at (808) 866-4690.
