Pacific Islanders in Communication’s animated short film, Kapaemahu, has qualified to be nominated for an Oscar in this year’s Academy Awards!
Directed by Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, in collaboration with her longtime filmmaking partners Dean Hamer & Joe Wilson, Kapaemahu reveals the hidden history of four healing stones on Waikiki Beach. This short film will also be an integral part of an upcoming full-length documentary, The Healer Stones of Kapaemahu, that will revive the original Hawaiian legend and examine how, why and when this cultural legacy of healing and gender diversity was suppressed.
