When our Oahu support group, Hui Malama Po`o, saw a story on KITV about a teenager in Illinois who is suffering from severe anxiety following a traumatic brain injury (TBI), they jumped into action. The group, who gather to support people with TBI and other neurotrauma injuries, got together to create special Aloha Birthday cards for the teenager who had just recently celebrated her birthday.
The Hui is just one of AILH’s support groups here in the islands. They use crafting as cognitive therapy and strive to support one another, educate others about neurotrauma through community outreach, and give back to the community.
