Brian I. Hauser is very pleased to be joining the Board of Directors of the Aloha Independent Living Center. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, he came to Hawaii to study at the University of Hawaii at Manoa to complete his graduate studies in the field of disability and diversity. Brian also graduated with an associate’s degree from Landmark College, a college that specializes in learning disabilities.
Assisting the disabled and older population has been a life-long goal for Brian. As a New York State Systems Change Advocate, Brian was integral in the passage of pro-disability bills. As the key advocate who lobbied the State Senate, he held a press conference for the passage of Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE) in Westchester County.
Brian has presented disability sensitivity training to New York
State Department of Labor staff. In Addition, Brian has presented assistive Technology presentations to Vocational and Education Services for Individuals with Disabilities and the Tomorrowsworkplace One- Stop Staff and Rockland Independent Living Center. Brian also worked as co-teacher in a special education middle school class in the Bronx.
Brian is an accomplished poet who has been published in journals and literary reviews. Most recently, he enjoyed acting as an aviary foster parent for an injured Brazilian cardinal.
