Hello, my name is Randall James Lee and I have been hired as an Independent Living Specialist. I was born and raised in the sugar plantation town of Waialua. I later attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Chemistry.
After working in the Chemistry field for over 20 years, I decided to pursue a Master’s in Professional Counseling at Grand Canyon University. This career change was brought on by my psychologist who asked me “why don’t you do what makes your heart sing?”. Since I enjoyed motivating, supporting, encouraging and empowering consumers to work toward their goals, I attended Grand Canyon University where I graduated with a Master’s in Professional Counseling.
There has always been an inner joy of seeing consumers doing better in life. Of course, not all consumers were ‘success stories’. However, a mentor told me, “All you can do is provide your consumers the tools for a better life. What they choose to do with those tools is their business”. Having a mental disability, myself (Major Depressive Disorder), I am grateful to Aloha Independent Living Hawaii for giving me the chance to give others the hope and help for a better life that was freely given to me.
