Maui White Cane Day

Aloha Independent Living Hawaii collaborated with the Maui Lions Club, Haleakala Lions Club, Kahului Lions Club and Project Vision to host Maui’s White Cane Safety Day on Tuesday, October 15th. We were honored to welcome Mayor Michael Victorino, who declared October 15, 2019 as White Cane Safety Awareness Day in the County of Maui.

After the Mayoral Proclamation, the group took to the streets for the annual White Cane Walk. Everyone was invited to take a white cane if they didn’t have one and learn from those who use them on a daily basis.  Following the walk, Blair and Tim from Project Vision offered free vision screenings and free reading glasses in their fantastic mobile van. We appreciate the many individuals of all ages who use white canes, the community members and the personnel from different agencies who participated in this year’s event.
